Located in the Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood of Southeast Portland, New Day School is an educational project of New Day Ananda Marga of Portland, a religious, non-profit corporation registered in the State of Oregon since 1979. This project is inspired by the Neo-Humanistic vision of Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, also known as Shrii Shrii Anandamurti, the founder of Ananda Marga, translated as “Path of Bliss”. Ananda Marga is a socio-spiritual ideology and movement propounded by P.R. Sarkar in Jamalpur, Bihar, India in 1955. Its motto is “Self-realization & Selfless service”.
New Day School’s vision is a place where an imaginative and dynamic environment brings to life the principles of Neo-Humanistic Education. Our mission is to create a learning environment and curriculum which provides for the education of body, mind, and spirit. Neo-Humanistic Education unveils the innate greatness within each individual, strengthens the foundation of ethics, and inspires benevolent action in the world.
New Day School is blessed with nearly 3/4th of an acre of outdoor space developed into an organic garden as a permaculture educational model for its children and parent community. This model focuses on naturescaping with native plants, stormwater management, removal of invasive species, using natural pesticides; and wildlife stewardship. Our garden has been certified by Portland’s Audubon society as a backyard habitat.
